If the child is an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen, the Contributory Parent Visa, subclass 173 and 143, permits parents to live in Australia. A temporary visa, allowing the applicant to stay in Australia for two years, is a contributory parent 173 visa. The visa cannot be renewed or extended, but applicants are allowed to apply for the Contributory Parent Subclass 143 within two years of their stay on 173 visas. Which will give them permanent residency in Australia.

The applicants for these both the visas must be sponsored by their child who is 18 years of age and must be a Australian citizen, Australian Permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen.
