If the child is an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen, the Contributory Parent Visa, subclass 173 and 143, permits parents to live in Australia. A temporary visa, allowing the applicant to stay in Australia for two years, is a contributory parent 173 visa. The visa cannot be renewed or extended, but applicants are allowed to apply for the Contributory Parent Subclass 143 within two years of their stay on 173 visas. Which will give them permanent residency in Australia.
The applicants for these both the visas must be sponsored by their child who is 18 years of age and must be a Australian citizen, Australian Permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen.
This Visa will allow you to live, Study and work in Australia for 2 years. If on Subclass 173. But if you are a holder of subclass 143 than you can stay, work and study for indefinite period.
These both subclasses will allow you to enrol in Australia’s Public Health Cover
With subclass 173 you can as many times as you want for 2 years from the date of visa grant. But if you are holder of subclass 143 than you leave, and revisit Australia for 5 years form the date visa was granted.
If you are holder of subclass 143 visa than you can apply for Australian citizenship after fulfilling the criteria.
You can also sponsor eligible relatives for permanent residency in Australia if you are on subclass 143.

You must meet the balance of family test.
If you want to apply for subclass 143 than you must hold a contribute parent (Temporary) (Subclass 173).
You must abide by all the criteria applicable to temporary contributory parent visa subclass 173 for if you want to apply for 143 subclass.
The base application charge for subclass 173 is $3,210. If there is additional applicant who is 18 plus of age than their will be another additional charge of $1,604 and $805 for the additional applicant who is under 18 years of age.
